Jardin Villa Eilen Roc - Antibes

Villa Eilenroc and Garden

Description

You will find the Villa d’Eilenroc, nicknamed the “Jewel of the Côte d’Azur”, situated on the edge of the “sentier des contrebandiers” (smugglers’ path) which goes around the famous Cap d’Antibes. Its construction began in 1860, after the purchase of a piece of land on the Cap by a rich Dutchman who named it Eilenroc (Eilenroc is the anagram of his wife’s first name Cornélie). In 1927, the property was bought by the Beaumonts who, with the help of a landscape architect, restructured the 11-hectare park that surrounds it. Mythical social evenings were held here. In 1982, on the proposal of the Mayor of the time, Madame Beaumont sold the property to the town of Antibes. Since then, the park has been transformed into a rose garden to commemorate the horticultural past of Antibes, once the “Capital of the Rose”.
